Men and Boats

I published the lessons I have learned on the above subject in our Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club newsletter. I hope you will find it amusing!

Men and Boats: Lessons from the Sailing Life

by Paul Masson

No man is an island,

But if he has a boat, he can at least pretend.

Owning a boat is not restricted to men.

Women just have more common sense.

A man usually runs away to sea because of a woman.

Either she has broken his heart, or he’s married to her.

A man often gives more presents to his sailboat during a season

Than his wife receives from him over her lifetime.

Boating is the perfect hobby for retirement.

It occupies all your spare time, and it makes sure that you spend your money before you die.

Blue-water sailing is playing Russian roulette with the weather.

Somewhere out there is a wave with your name on it, and it will find you.

Owning a boat can be a very frustrating experience,

Which explains why a boat is referred to as “she”.

Boating opens up your life to a whole range of new experiences:

Some good, some bad; all of them expensive.
