Hamish Cameron is an unlikely candidate for a private investigator. A retired former judge, he has decided to spend the rest of his days in an upscale retirement residence in Ashcroft-by-the-Sea, Nova Scotia. But troubling events lead him to investigate what is going on there, with the help of a volunteer social worker, Sean Carroll. What they uncover puts them in peril, but they manage to bring the perpetrators to book. They go on from there to found a detective agency, and become involved in catching criminals lurking in their seemingly idyllic seaside town. Their cases include sabotage at a local plant, child abduction, a drug trafficking ring, and skulduggery on the ocean.
This collection includes volumes 1 to 3 of the series The ABC Files, namely Hamish Cameron Investigates, A Chorus of Evil, and Evil Through the Spyglass, which are also available as individual eBooks.
Ashcroft-by-the-Sea is a fictional town, but its setting in Canada’s Maritime Provinces will resonate with many readers, and will also appeal to those who like English village murder mysteries.

Sean Carroll gets a panicked phone call in the middle of the night to pick up Olivia at her house. She was his heart throb in high school, a beautiful and seductive young woman. When he gets to her house, he makes a grisly discovery, and suddenly he is the middle of an RCMP investigation. He and his partner, Hamish Cameron, uncover a truly evil operation that they attempt to dismantle despite the danger that this poses for them.

Cameron and Carroll, Investigators are asked to find Amelia, the daughter of a Canadian mining magnate. Hamish Cameron contacts a former colleague in Ottawa, who ends up dead. HIs death appears to be linked to his inquiries into the casino built in the African country of Summerland decades ago, around the time Amelia lived there. Hamish and Sean Carroll try to unravel the threads connecting the various events, but face mortal danger from Summerland’s tyrannical government and those who do not want the past to be disinterred.

Events decades before in Germany haunt the present lives of several of the characters. What starts as a favour for a friend in Halifax by retired judge Hamish Cameron turns into a web of intrigue and murder. But just as he and his detective-agency partner, Sean Carroll, seem to be closing in on the murderer, they realise that things are very different from what they thought. The answer is buried in the past, and it is in the interest of the culprit to keep it buried.
