Come See us at ‘Books at the Barn’ in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

Once again the Niagara-on-the-Lake Writers’ Circle will provide an opportunity to meet with local authors on the day of the Strawberry Festival here in town. I will host Books at the Barn in front of my red barn at 322 Simcoe Street–across the street from St. Andrews Church–on Saturday, June 21st, from 9am to 3pm.

This year, the following writers will be on hand to sign and sell their works, which span a number of genres and subjects.

Sharon Frayne is the award winning author of Caught Between the Walls, a historical fiction novel set in the former NOTL Courthouse and Jail. Thoroughly researched in the NOTL Museum, the novel has captivating tales of real people, whose lives were altered by turbulent times and injustices. The Sound of a Rainbow, published by Latitude 46, is her CBC recommended novel. It is the winner of the Muskoka Novel Marathon. Reviews describe this gripping tale of a teen affected by social media as ‘captivating’, ‘timely’ and ‘smart’.

Diane Martin is the author of a youth trilogy, The Medallion Mysteries. She will have available book 1, When Time Stands Still, and book 2, Missing Pieces. She is currently working on the final book in the series.

I myself (Paul Masson) will have copies of the seven mystery novels in my series, The ABC Files, including the latest one, Ignorance is a Pleasant Evil, in which newbie detective Beth Phillips finds herself drawn into an investigation of the death of an indigenous woman in the Athabasca oil sands.

Kathryn Recourt, who writes stories for children ages 3 – 8, will have available all 3 books in her Sir Archibald Droolsalot series, including the latest, Puppy Dog Blues.

John Sivell (pen name: R. C. Highcroft), now completing a cycle of Persian short stories, will have one novel available. Providence Point is a heart-warming coming-of-age tale. Think My Family and Other Animals, but in a 1950’s/60’s Georgian Bay setting. A great summer read!

Richard West is the author of a series of fantasy novels that involve the Lightning People, who see auras around normal people. The first two books in the series are collected in a volume called Auras. His book Recollections of War presents short stories based on his parents’ WW2 experiences.

Previous year’s Books at the Barn

Our group of authors will be easily spotted beneath a Writers’ Circle banner affixed to the barn, as can be seen in a picture of a previous year’s event. We will be looking forward to chatting with actual or potential readers of the works mentioned above. We will also have on sale an annual Anthology of short stories penned by Writers’ Circle members.

See you there!
